MT. JULIET, Tenn. - A Good Samaritan is being called a hero after stopping an armed robber at a Mt. Juliet gas station.

Police said a 17-year-old male suspect entered the Citgo station on N. Mt. Juliet Rd around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday. He demanded money and keys to a car outside.

The owner, Solomon Yitbarek, complied but gave him the wrong keys to try and stall him. Then bystander Greg McDougal jumped into action.

"When I realized that he had a knife and a robbery had occurred, my wife and kids were here, oh yeah, the adrenaline started happening then," said McDougal.

He told the suspect to stop, and was able to knock a steak knife out of his hand.

"It wasn't physical.  I was just able to command with a big voice," said McDougal. "It was pretty scary."

Mt. Juliet police arrived on the scene just minutes later and took the suspect into custody.

"The quick thinking of the bystander did delay the suspect," said Sgt. Tyler Chandler. "We were able to then quickly take him into custody."

The suspect is now charged with aggravated robbery.  All the stolen property was recovered, and no one was hurt. McDougal's actions are being praised by police and the convenience store owner.

"He saved the man's life, my life too," said Yitbarek. "if there were more customers in here he would have saved their lives too."

McDougal said he didn't think, he just reacted, and he would do it all again.

"I don't think I did anything that anyone else wouldn't have done," said McDougal. "I am just thankful no one was hurt."
