Fans Will Determine Future Of Fairgrounds Speedway

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The supporters of the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway said Middle Tennessee racing fans will help determine the future of the track.

Speedway president and promoter Tony Formosa said the racing is better now than it ever has been with big crowds attending races in April and May.

The track closed in 2011 prior to finishing the final schedule race because of financial reasons, but the track re-opened in April under new management.

Two-time Daytona 500 winner and Sprint Cup veteran Sterling Marlin and former Nationwide Series driver Casey Atwood are competing in the Late Model division this year.

Formosa said more than 10,000 fans attended the speedway's opening race in April and nearly 8,000 watched the races in May.
