Mothers Charged After Giving Birth To Drug-Addicted Babies
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn.- In Rutherford County three young women have been charged after giving birth to drug-addicted babies.
Crystal Gristy reportedly admitted to buying oxycontin and Hydrocodone on the streets and taking the drugs while pregnant. The 24-year-old was charged with aggravated assault on a child.
Police charged 23-year old Christy Barrett with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment after her newborn baby tested positive for both cocaine and marijuana. Barrett was arrested and was booked in the Rutherford County Jail. She was held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
According to police, a third mother 27-year old Amanda J. Evans was arrested after she told police that she injected cocaine into her system while she was pregnant. Evans was charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
