17 To Lose Jobs At Smyrna Water Department

Posted: Updated:

SMYRNA, Tenn. - Seventeen employees at the Smyrna's water department have lost their jobs due to neighboring city Nolensville.

In a meeting held Tuesday night it was announced that instead of raising taxes, 17 positions within the Smyrna water department have been cut.

The job cuts come because the city of Nolensville had been getting their tap water from the Smyrna Water Plant, to the tune of 8 million gallons a year. The large growth in Nolensville meant that Smyrna's facility can't keep up, so Nolensville contracted with another city for water.
