DICKSON, Tenn.-- A Dickson woman narrowly escaped a house fire, but still has a tough road of recovery ahead.
Nancy Thompson lost everything when lightning struck her home last week. The fire spread quickly, and she says she is grateful she was able to get out alive.
"I saw smoke on the ceiling and I knew something was wrong," said Thompson, "I grabbed my clothes, my cell phone and flashlight and came out the front door. The flames were right behind me."
Firefighters declared Thompson's home a total loss, and she is heartbroken all her possessions and reminders of her late husband are gone.
"All my pictures, my collections, everything is gone," said Thompson.
The American Red Cross helped her find a hotel room, and local churches have donated clothes and food. Thompson said she appreciates the generosity.
"It's been really tough," said Thompson, "I am already at the bottom. Now it is time to climb out. I am grateful people are willing to help."
Thompson has to be out of her hotel room June 14th, and isn't sure where to turn next. She hopes to find a way to get to family in Pennsylvania, and eventually rebuilt her house.
"I am just hoping to restart everything, and I'm grateful that I am here to do it."
