SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. - Connie Barker, the wife of the late Sumner County sheriff Bob Barker, has passed away.

Mrs. Barker had battled cancer for the past couple of years.

Her illness came to light just weeks after her husband's death in 2010 from pancreatic cancer.

Mrs. Barker spoke with NewsChannel 5 about her illness, and her husband's last year. At the time, tests showed high levels of radon in the family's home, and Mrs. Barker believed that played a role in both their cancers.

The Barkers were also committed to animal welfare in their community.

Last year, Sumner County's new animal shelter opened and was dedicated to the couple.
