Council To Discuss Alternative Budget Proposal

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - On Monday, the Metro Council will discuss a substitute budget ordinance against Mayor Karl Dean's proposed budget.

Each budget includes a 53-cent property tax increase, but the money is allocated differently. The substitute from Councilman Sean McGuire puts four cents from the increase into a debt reserve and makes financial cuts to multiple programs proposed in the mayor's budget.

The Metro Council will meet Monday during a budget and finance meeting and is allowed to makes amendments to McGuire's ordinance.

The final vote on a budget is scheduled for Tuesday. If they cannot make a decision before the end of June, the mayor's proposal automatically goes into effect.
