Changes To Transportation Commission

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Changes are on the way for inspectors of Metro's Transportation Licensing Commission amid allegations they posed as police officers.

At a meeting on Monday, the Commission laid out new guidelines for inspectors. Among the new rules, inspector badges will no longer say "police" or look like police badges. Also vehicle inspectors will be allowed to carry firearms, but must first go through training. Inspector cannot perform arrests, but can assist metro police officers in making arrests.

The Transportation Licensing Commission came under fire from motorist and even Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson after claims inspectors carried police badges and impersonated officers.
