NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation said repair work on I-24 just east of downtown is moving along nicely.
Crews are working to replace the road deck on the bridges over Main Street and Woodland Street.
Last weekend, the contractor began installing new panels on the westbound side and got 25 new ones put in.
Officials realize the I-24 interstate closures are a headache for drivers, but said it's necessary.
"So we only have six more weekends of work, meaning only six more weekends of closures. And then one additional weekend where will be sealing the final layer and paving the asphalt there on the bridge," said Deanna Lambert with TDOT. "So there is light at the end of the tunnel, so all of this should be completed by August 31."
There will not be any closures this weekend on that stretch of I-24 because of the Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw concert at LP Field.
