Authorities: 30 Indicted In False NM License Ring

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Federal prosecutors said 30 people, including two from Tennessee, have been indicted for traveling from South Carolina to New Mexico to illegally obtain driver's licenses.

Authorities said the suspects were in the United States illegally and traveled to New Mexico to apply for the licenses because the state does not require proof of U.S. citizenship.

Prosecutors said the suspects used fake documents such as falsified utility bills to get the licenses in New Mexico.

Authorities said 16 of the suspects were from South Carolina, five were from New Mexico, three were from Virginia, two were from Tennessee and one each was from North Carolina and Georgia. Prosecutors didn't have addresses for two of the suspects.
