Police: Man Impersonated TBI Agent During Traffic Stop

Posted: Updated:

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. - Police are searching for a man who impersonated a law enforcement officer overnight in Rutherford County.

Investigators said a woman was driving on Thompson Lane early Wednesday morning when she was pulled over by a Jeep Cherokee with red and blue flashing lights. A man approached, identified himself as a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent, and began asking questions.

The woman became suspicious when the man didn't have on a uniform or show an ID. She then sped away and called police.

The woman told police the man was white, 40 to 50 years old, with a mustache and a buzz-style haircut. He was driving a light colored Jeep Cherokee.

Police believe the woman did the right thing, as the man could have tried to rob or kidnap her.

Police warn motorists to be aware as they search for the impostor.
