Car Crashes Through House In Old Hickory

Posted: Updated:

HERMITAGE, Tenn. - Two Hermitage homeowners said they are lucky to be alive after a car came crashing through their garage.

Police said the crash happened in the South Fork subdivision off of Old Hickory Blvd just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses said that a car drove off the road went through the backyard of a home, then crashed into the house going through the garage and coming to rest in the home's driveway.

"I feel I am very blessed because we could have been sitting in those chairs," said Tammy Hills.

Officials said that the driver of the car had some kind of medical reaction that forced her to lose control of the car. The driver and the homeowners were not hurt, but there is a lot of cleanup ahead.

The crash also startled her next door neighbor.

"At that point, I heard the impact, my whole house shook," said neighbor Brittany McHone.

McHone then rushed over to help the driver of the car. She is a medical assistant so she checked the vitals of the driver.

While her house may be in pieces, Tammy said she still has a lot to be thankful for.

"Just by the grace of god we are all safe," said Hills.

Tammy and her husband are not able to live in the house right now so they are staying with friends for the time being. They have insurance and are waiting to get an estimate on the damage. They don't know how long it will take to repair all the damage.
