FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. - A search effort ended Sunday in Lincoln County after the body of a missing swimmer was found.
The Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency said they discovered the body of the 17-year-old in the Elk River in Fayetteville at approximately 4:30 p.m.
The teen was last seen swimming in the river around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Officials said he was reported missing Saturday evening.
The EMA, Fayetteville Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, Fayetteville Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS searched until midnight, and then their efforts resumed Sunday morning. Sunday, divers assisted the search teams.
His body was sent to the Medical Examiner's office in Nashville for autopsy.
