NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting two police officers after stealing $5 worth of merchandise.
Centerius Bryant, 21, was charged Monday with two counts of assaulting an officer, theft, burglary, and vandalism.
An affidavit said that officers were called to the Discount Tobacco Center on Jenkins Street for a theft call.
Police said Bryant also destroyed the business' front door, which was caught on surveillance. He allegedly caused $2,000 worth of damage.
While trying to take him into custody, Bryant allegedly began kicking and spitting at one officer, causing stitches in his hand to bust open.
Police said he also bit another officer in the hand, drawing blood.
Both officers had to go to the hospital due to their injuries, but were expected to be ok.
Bryant was booked into the Davidson County jail.
