Woman Found Shot In Road Dies From Injuries

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – A woman who was found shot in the middle of a Columbia road over the weekend has died from her injuries.

Michelle Talavera was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt Medical Center just after midnight Wednesday. The news comes less than one day after she was declared braindead.

The 28-year-old was found with a gunshot wound to the head on Woodland Street in Columbia early Sunday. She had been taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical condition.

Investigators said their investigation has revealed she was part of a large group of people outside a club, when someone fired shots into the crowd.

It was believed she was not the target, and was simply hit at random.

Police have now begun a murder investigation. They have spoken to several witnesses, but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is urged to call Columbia Police Department Detective's Division at (931) 380-2721 or Crime Stoppers at (931) 381-4900.
