NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than two dozen people were left without a home after a two-alarm apartment fire in South Nashville.
Crews were called out to the Brentwood Oaks Apartments on North Oak Drive just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses said smoke was visible from nearly three miles away.
There are 18 units in the building, and the fire destroyed nearly all of them. The fire was said to have started on the third floor and moved down and through the complex.
"I just watched it come down and spread left and spread down and spread left the wind just kept blowing into it and fueling it. I knew by the time I heard the sirens this building was totally lost," said resident Josh Donegan.
Two Nashville firefighters were hurt while battling the blaze. One firefighter was treated for a fractured foot, while the other was treated for hypertension.
Officials said there were no reports of any injuries to residents. It was unclear how the fire began.
The American Red Cross was on scene to assist 26 residents who lost their homes in the fire.
