Driver Killed After Truck Strikes Tree On Dickerson Pike

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A driver was killed after crashing his car into a tree in north Nashville overnight.

Police said 64-year-old Sammie Morris was driving on Dickerson Pike near Due West Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when his pickup truck went across all lanes of oncoming traffic and struck a tree.

Police said evidence showed Davis did not try to stop before the collision, which could indicate he was unconscious. He was wearing a seatbelt.

He was pinned inside, and emergency crews had to extricate him from the vehicle. Davis was taken to the Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol at the scene.

Dickerson Pike was closed while the fatal reconstruction team investigated the wreck, but it re-opened around 5:30 a.m.
