Highs In 100s Expected For Next Five Days

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee will see triple-digit temperatures starting Thursday and lasting until Monday.

Highs will be as follows: Thursday – 101 degrees; Friday – 104 degrees; Saturday – 104 degrees; Sunday – 103 degrees; and Monday – 102 degrees.

Temperatures will fall back into the high 90s by Tuesday.

A heat advisory has been issued for the mid-state for Friday through Sunday. NewsChannel 5 meteorologist Lelan Statom said if it reaches 104 degrees on Friday it would break a record set in 1952.

No rain is in the forecast until a paltry 20 percent chance shows up going into Independence Day.

Burn bans have been issued across the mid-state. Clarksville has banned fireworks, and other counties and cities have asked residents to use extreme caution when setting them off.

A Code Orange Air Alert has been issued for Thursday. Anyone with Asthma or other respiratory problems, children, elderly, and those who work or exercise outside should use caution.

The Tennessee Department of Health has urged residents to take caution and take preventive steps to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke during the summer heat.

"While the elderly, children and those with existing health issues are most at risk, extreme heat can affect everyone," said TDH Commissioner John J. Dreyzehner, MD, MPH.  "For that reason, we're working to get the word out as quickly as possible about precautionary measures and treatment."

Officials recommend that residents drink plenty of fluid, stay cool indoors, pace themselves when working outside or exercising, and limit time outside when possible.
