NASHVILLE, Tenn.- After leaving home to serve his country 40 years ago, a local man's sacrifice is finally being recognized.
"My mama said, when he graduated, that the poor boy's too young to vote, but they'll all be sent off to Vietnam. And most of ‘em won't come back. I didn't know she was talking about Danny," said widow Sharon Martin Potts.
Danny Martin was killed December first, 1969 in Vietnam. He was there building roads and bridges. Now, the bridge on State Route 246, south of Franklin bears his name.
"Today, today I closed the door, but I opened up a new one," said one of Martin's fellow soldiers, Bob Getek.
Martin graduated from Franklin High School and married his high school sweet heart, before heading overseas.
