Local Woman Hands Out Relief From Heat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As temperatures continued to break triple digits, Theresa Harrison and her three sons spent the better part of Sunday morning handing out hope at Church Street Park in Nashville.

"It's still 90 maybe 100 degrees in the shade," she said standing on the corners of Church Street and Capitol Blvd.

The 37-year-old single mother can empathize with the dozens of homeless people she sees sitting in this park, she was once one of them.

"I never thought it would happen to me either, but it happened," she says.

Which is why, in near record high heat she stood at the back of her beat up Mitsubishi sedan handing out cold bottles of water on Sunday.

"I don't like to call them homeless, I like to call them less fortunate people," she explains.

In total she spent $80 and purchased some 144 bottles of water, a drop in the bucket perhaps but Theresa knows even one bottle of water can help, especially when it's this hot.

"They're thirsty and not just for physical water, there's something they're trying to find down here."
