FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn. – Police have identified the body of a woman found burned in Franklin County early Monday morning.
The body has been identified as 24-year-old Erika Sharpton.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department said a motorist called to report a grass fire in the Awalt Bridge area at Tims Ford Lake around 1:20 a.m. When the motorist turned around to confirm the grass fire, he discovered the partially burned body of a female.
Sgt. Chris Guess said Monday afternoon that her missing car was found on Highway 41-A in the Normandy area.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to help investigate.
It was unclear if she burned to death, or was already dead when her body was set on fire. The case is being treated as a homicide investigation.
