Cheekwood Treehouse Purchased, Donated To Gardens

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A treehouse on display in Cheekwood Botanical Gardens' tree houses exhibit will remain at Cheekwood.

The Tennessean reported an anonymous donor purchased the Walden Treehouse, inspired by Henry David Thoreau's Walden, and donated it to the gardens.

Cheekwood CEO Jane Offenbach said the treehouse was one of seven on display during the Swan Ball auction last month and that it sold for $40,000.

She said committee members planned to auction the Walden Treehouse so it could be dismantled and then reassembled on someone's property, but the donor came forward instead.

The exhibit continues until Labor Day.
