NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The woman who was critically injured in a rollover crash on I-40 east over the weekend has died from her injuries.
Police said 23-year-old Charlene Harris was the front seat passenger in a GMC Envoy driven by 25-year-old Jeremy McBride near Briley Parkway around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses told police McBride was driving erratically before losing control of the SUV. The SUV flipped over, and Harris, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.
Police said alcohol may be a contributing factor to the crash as officers smelled alcohol on McBride, and he allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash.
McBride, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Summit Medical Center.
He was charged with vehicular assault upon his release Sunday morning. He was freed on $5,000 bond.
Toxicology tests were pending, and additional charges were likely.
