Water Main Break Slows Downtown Traffic

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Metro Water Services crews are on the scene of a 36 inch water main break in the intersection of Second Avenue South and Peabody Street.

Traffic on Second Avenue South is reduced to one lane northbound from Middleton Street to Korean Veterans Boulevard.  The west and center lanes of Second Avenue South are closed from Middleton Street to Korean Veterans Blvd.

Peabody Street is reduced to one lane between First Avenue South and Second Avenue South, and it is closed completely between Second Avenue South and Third Avenue South.

Officers are assisting drivers; however, commuters are advised to avoid the area if at all possible.

Metro Water Services said the cause or severity of the break is unknown at this time although the repair is expected to continue into the evening hours. 

The water company said customers along this section of Second Avenue South may experience low pressure or water outages. Repairs are being made as quickly as possible, and service will be restored upon repair completion.

Thousands of people are expected Downtown Tuesday night as city leaders have planned a fireworks display at Riverfront Park.
