Parents Of Four Kids In Van Crash File Lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A lawsuit has been filed in Jefferson County over the crash last month of a day care van that resulted in the death of an adult and injuries to the driver and 14 children.

The Courier-Journal reported the lawsuit was filed on behalf of Phaedra Chapman-Woods and Jordon Woods, parents of 4 of the children, including one who was hospitalized more than two weeks after the June 12 wreck.

The lawsuit contends that Heavenly Angels Childcare Center owner Lavonia Cochran-Lewars allowed driver Keishia Tiller to transport children even though Tiller was "in the habit of driving negligently." Tiller is in fair condition at University Hospital.

Killed in the wreck was 31-year-old monitor Tiffany Belk.

Lewars, who closed three Heavenly Angels locations after the crash, couldn't be reached for comment.
