NASHVILLE, Tenn.- New information has been released about the murder of a handicapped man in Madison.
Gene Brodie was gunned down more than a year ago. The case remains unsolved, but this week police have released surveillance video of the man's last moments. The surveillance video comes from a camera at Metro General Hospital.
Metro Detective David Kautzman said it shows the last moments of Gene Brodie's life.
"You can see here the victim is walking down the street with another subject. This is DB Todd Boulevard at Albion," said Kautzman. "And there's several cars that pass the two people on DB Todd,"
It was 1:30 in the morning on June 14, 2011. A few seconds later they crossed Albion Street. Then someone shot and killed Brodie.
"If you watch here you'll see the person of interest running back south on DB Todd," said Kautzman.
There's no way police can identify the person running. The quality of the video just isn't very good, but they know Brodie is on the video because he walked with crutches. Neighbors said Brodie lost part of his leg in a car accident.
"I mean you could catch him walking up and down the street on his crutches on one leg like it was just normal to him. It didn't faze him about the one leg," said Lee Currie, a neighbor.
Brodie didn't have family in Nashville, but he was still important even to a complete stranger. He never knew Tracye Henderson. She drove to work one day in pain after knee surgery.
"I concentrated on him and kind of what I thought about my knee hurting just kind of vanished, because I was like, I could be that person," said Henderson.
Now, police want to find his killer. The video shows lots of traffic on DB Todd just before Brodie was killed.
"We're certain somebody has seen the suspect with the victim or saw the murder actually occur," said Kautzman.
Others in the community just want justice. Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-Crime.
