Residents Find A Place To Skate Around The Heat

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- While triple digit temperatures reign in the mid-state not everyone is hating the heat, in fact some business are benefiting from it.

Local ice rinks are at the top of that list. An unbearable heat has taken hold of Nashville, but through the doors of Centennial Sportsplex residents have found an oasis.

"It's the exact opposite of how it was outside. It feels really good in here. It's like relief," said one patron,

It's a place where hats and gloves aren't required, but encouraged even in July.

"It was a drastic change. I wasn't prepared for how cold it was going to be in here," said Les Keller.

It's a place where people like Brie and Tonya Clark are still talking about the temperature.

"It's nice! I'm not complaining," said Clark.

The mother and daughter are first-timers on the ice. Driven here, they say, in search of relief.

"You're still doing physical activity, still kids having fun, but it's cool. So I'm all about inside sports," said Tonya.

That's why this week has been one of the busiest ever at the Sportsplex.

"I have a lot of my golf buddies out there, fishing buddies, and I'll tell you what, on a day like today, they'd all kill to have this job," said one employee of the Sportsplex. "We don't pre-sell tickets, so we never know what we're going to be walking into, but when the weather is like this, I can't think of any place I'd rather be than here at the ice rink."

The ice rink at Centennial Sportsplex opens for public skating at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
