Boy's Funeral Brings Tensions, Police Response

Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Ten Memphis Police cars responded as tensions mounted at the funeral of 3-year-old boy.

According to The Commercial Appeal, services for Maurice Brown Jr. were under way on Saturday when a man walked to the front of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church and said the boy died because his father "wasn't being a father."

The man was restrained by friends and taken outside. The congregation followed them and several people called 911.

On Friday, police charged the child's father, Maurice Brown Sr., on two murder counts.

The boy disappeared July 1 and his father told police he awoke from a nap and the boy was gone. The boy's body was found in a trash bin on Tuesday.
