MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Memphis man charged in the death of his 3-year-old son has made a court appearance.

Maurice Brown Sr. is charged with murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and murder in the perpetration of aggravated child neglect in the death of Maurice Brown Jr.

The boy disappeared July 1, and his father told police he awoke from a nap and the boy was gone. But police said witness accounts contradicted the man's story, and the child's body was found in a trash bin last Tuesday.

Brown made a brief appearance in General Sessions Court in Memphis on Monday. He told a judge that he has a lawyer who is out of town. A hearing has been set for July 26.
