Oprah's Father, Vernon Winfrey, Files For Divorce

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Oprah Winfrey's father, Vernon Winfrey, has filed for a divorce.

In the petition for divorce, Vernon Winfrey accuses wife Barbara Winfrey of inappropriate marital conduct. He also cites irreconcilable differences as grounds for the divorce.

Barbara Winfrey is Vernon Winfrey's second wife, according to the court record. The couple has been married for 12 years.

Vernon Winfrey filed for divorce in Williamson County Chancery Court on June 25.

Vernon Winfrey is a former Metro Nashville councilman who has been a barber in the city for more than four decades. He currently lives in Franklin.
