NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said a homeowner hired a man to set fire to two of his homes in order to collect insurance money.

Police said 32-year-old Corey Alan Gaines was hired by homeowner Scott Williams to set fire to two separate homes on 14th Avenue North. The first fire was on May 7, 2011, and the second was on May 2, 2012.

In the most recent fire, the home was destroyed. The woman who lived there was in the process of moving out, but a firefighter was injured while fighting the fire. Williams told police he paid Gaines $1,000 to set fire to the house so he could file an insurance claim.

Gaines was allegedly given five months of free rent for starting the 2011 fire.

Gaines was charged with two counts of arson, and held on $80,000 bond. Williams was released on bond after being charged with facilitation of arson.
