Cadiz Police Warn Of Jury Duty Text Scam

Posted: Updated:

CADIZ, Ky.- Police in Cadiz are warning residents about a jury duty text message scam occurring in the area.

Officials with the Trigg County Circuit Clerk's office said that people are receiving text messages on their phones that tell them they have failed to appear for jury duty and are given a number to call. When residents call the number they are told they have missed their jury duty and could face a fine or jail time. The scam also asks for citizen's date of birth and Social Security number.

Police want to remind residents that all communication between state courts and prospective jurors is conducted through the U.S. mail. No legitimate court officials will ask for Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or other sensitive information.

Anyone who may receive a call or text of this nature was asked to contact the Cadiz Police Department at (270) 522-8369.
