DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- The general manager of a Dyersburg golf course said he shot Canadian geese because they were destroying the grass at the course.
The Farms general manager David Alexander told The State Gazette that the shooting last month was a hastily made decision and said he immediately told wildlife authorities about the shooting.
The geese were living at a lake in a subdivision at the golf course and Alexander said the Canadian geese have been a problem at the course for years. He said he wanted to pay to have the geese relocated, but some residents at the subdivision were opposed to that plan.
Alexander was cited for violation of a city ordinance for discharging a firearm in city limits.
