CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A medical examiner investigator said first responders and doctors tried every option to save the lives of two young Bradley County brothers who died after being left outside on a hot day.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported the specific core temperature of the children's bodies is confidential while the investigation continues, but said it was at or above 105 degrees.
Three-year-old River Bates was dead within 45 minutes of his mother's 911 call on June 28 -- a day when the high temperature reached 101 degrees. The boy's 5-year-old brother Leland was declared brain-dead that night.
Eric Blach, the lead investigator for the Bradley County Medical Examiner's Office, said more than a dozen medical personnel crowded into the SkyRidge Medical Center emergency room, working to save the boys.
