Markets Allowed To Reopen After Raids

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The local convenience store owners accused of selling illegal synthetic drugs appeared before a Davidson County judge on Thursday.

Eleven markets were padlocked on Tuesday after police said they had been selling illegal synthetic drugs. A judge decided on Thursday that the stores will be allowed to reopen, but only after they agreed to a permanent injunction, meaning if they're ever again caught selling synthetic drugs, they'll face serious consequences.

Several business owners plan to reopen just as soon as they repay the costs associated with authorities carrying out Tuesday's raids although most must wait until August first to officially open their doors for business.

The attorney representing three of those stores said the conditions aren't a done deal, but at this point, it's his clients' best option.

"You know its reality over theory. The reality of the situation you find yourself in. if you contest, you have to have a full blown hearing, the injunction stays in place in the interim, and you're down how long, and it costs your how much?" said Attorney Fletcher Long.

Long said he still has questions about the constitutionality of this state law targeting synthetic drugs.
