COVINGTON, Tenn. (AP) - Searchers have recovered the body of a man who drowned while swimming in the Mississippi River upstream from Memphis.
Tipton County Sheriff's Office Chef Deputy Billy Daugherty said the victim was about 30 years old and was swimming with two friends on Thursday north of Duvall Landing. According to The Commercial Appeal, the man swam to a sandbar and was coming back when he got into trouble at about 6 p.m. His friends tried to help, but were unable to reach him.
The victim's identity wasn't immediately released.
