Robber Hits Two Banks In West End Area

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force are looking for the person who tried to rob a bank on Friday morning, then robbed another one nearby.

The first was an attempted robbery at the Bank of America in the 1600 block of Church Street at 9:15 a.m. Friday. The suspect handed the teller a note demanding money. After the teller refused to give his note back, he left empty-handed.

Witnesses said he got into the backset of a black Volkswagen Passat with two other people in the front seat.

Ten minutes later, he entered the Bank of America on Blakemore Avenue and again presented the teller with a note. This time he was given cash. Both are branches are in the West End area. No weapon was seen in either location.

Police say the suspect is described as being in his late 20s. He is approximately 5'10" tall with a medium build.   He entered the bank wearing plaid shorts, a t-shirt, tennis shoes and a ball cap.

Anyone who has information concerning the robbery is urged to contact the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force at 232-7500 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.  Citizens can also send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word "CASH" along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com

Police want to remind citizens that people who contact Crime Stoppers by phone or text message can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
