CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee congressional candidate said it was mistake to use video footage of the Chattanooga National Cemetery including an image of a gravestone in political ads after the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs sent him a cease-and-desist letter.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Weston Wamp's campaign was contacted on Thursday by a Veterans Affairs official about his ads, one of which ran for several days on Chattanooga television stations.
Federal regulations prohibit photographs for advertising or commercial purposes taken at Veterans Affairs cemeteries unless written consent is granted. Neither Wamp's campaign nor the company that produced the ads asked for permission.
Wamp said he deeply respects and admires the veterans' sacrifices and he was the first to admit the mistake.
