CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- A 9-month-old baby girl was discovered alone in a motel room Saturday night. Now the parents are facing charges.
"Yesterday I watched them (the parents) leave like three or four different times before I said 'This is enough. Let me go make sure somebody else is with that baby,'" says Rita York who discovered the baby.
The mother and father of the 9-month-old, Robert Calles and Brittany Calles, are now facing child abuse and neglect charges. The couple was staying at the Winners Circle Motel on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Clarksville. Witnesses at the hotel told staff the two had left the child alone, and when employees went to check the room, they heard a baby crying. The baby was found alone, wrapped in a blanket on the bed.
"The baby wasn't even in the center of the bed, they had left that baby right there on the corner," explains hotel manager Marjorie Hughes.
"The 911 operator said pick the baby up. Hold the baby. Don't let
anybody take the baby until the police get there," York recalls.
When the parents came back to the room about 30 minutes later, they were arrested.
"I'm glad that child is alive," Hughes adds.
The child is now with The Tennessee Department of Children's Services.
