Police: Man Used Children To Steal Items From Walmart

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was arrested after small children were caught trying to steal hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from a Nashville Walmart.

William Muncey, 46, was arrested Sunday at the store on Dickerson Pike. He was charged with theft and contributing to the delinquency of three minors.

A police affidavit said a security officer had spotted Muncey on surveillance video filling a shopping cart with home items and cases of beer.

He did not check out, but left the cart up front, and exited the store. That's when he allegedly sent two eight year olds and a seven year old in to push the shopping cart out of the store without paying.

The security guard stepped in, stopped the kids, and called police. Muncey was found circling the parking lot in a vehicle, waiting for the kids to leave the store.

Police are still working to determine his exact relationship to the three children.

During questioning, the children told police it was not the first time they were used in this type of scheme to steal merchandise from a store.

Police said the amount of merchandise in the cart totaled $574.05.

The Department of Children's Services was called in to assist.

A check also revealed Muncey had an outstanding warrant on a probation violation.
