SEIU Files Lawsuit Against Metro Schools, Dr. Register

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Service union officials have filed a lawsuit against Nashville Metro Schools and Director of Schools, Dr. Jesse Register.

The Service Employees International Union, or SEIU, filed suit in Chancery court on Monday, claiming Dr. Register and his senior staff exceeded their legal authority by trying to rescind a labor negotiations policy adopted by the school board in 2000. The lawsuit is the latest move in what's been a rocky relationship between school leaders and the union over the past six months.

The union filed and later dropped an ethics complaint against Dr. Register earlier this year.

Last week, the SEIU mailed out fliers trying to convince voters not to vote for School board chairperson Gracie Porter calling her a "bad apple."
