CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) - A Bradley County Sheriff's deputy has shot and wounded a man who was stabbing a woman in a car.
Sheriff's spokesman Bob Gault said Tuesday the incident occurred Monday night outside a convenience store after the deputy tried to pull over a car matching the description of one being sought. The car pulled into the store parking lot, striking a parked vehicle and a metal barrier.
Gault said the man in car began assaulting his female passenger and refused deputies' commands to surrender. The suspect was struck once by a gunshot and was taken to SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland. The woman received multiple stab wounds and was taken to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
The TBI is investigating, which is routine for an officer-involved shooting.
