SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. - A Sumner County man accidentally released from jail early will have to serve an additional two years for walking out of the courtroom after he learned of the mistake.
Convicted sex offender Keith Giroux pleaded guilty to charges of escape and tampering with a GPS monitor.
Last year, police arrested him for violating the sex offender registry, and he was ordered to serve jail time, but a clerical error led to a mistaken early release. When he was called back to court and told he'd have to go back to jail, he simply got up, walked out of the courtroom, and cut off his ankle monitoring bracelet.
Police caught him a month later.
