PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (AP) - A Smoky Mountains entertainment venue has stepped up to replace money stolen from Girl Scouts.
The Mountain Press reported the Smoky Mountain Opry invited the Scouts to a performance at its Pigeon Forge theater and presented them a check for $4,000.
A thief reached into a Girl Scout booth and stole a cash box at the city's Independence Day celebration.
Booth chairwoman Jerri Ewell said the box held an estimated $3,000 to $4,000 -- proceeds from the girls selling cookies and Fourth of July novelties during the day.
