NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The American Red Cross said they have an emergency need for blood donations as they are at a 15-year low.
The Red Cross said the extreme heat has kept some donors at home and severe storms have forced the cancellation of dozens of blood drives. They said support from their appeal in late June helped stop a decline in the blood supply, but donations have increased following Independence Day.
They added that if at least two additional donors give at each blood drive through the end of July, the blood supply would be sufficient to meet patient needs.
All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate blood supply.
