Heat Advisory Issued For Parts Of Mid-State

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/NewsChannel 5) - Forecasters have expanded a heat advisory to include a large part of the mid-state.

The National Weather Service said heat indexes up to 109 degrees and air temperatures in the upper 90s will create dangerous conditions for people outdoors.

The advisory includes the area between the Mississippi River and past Interstate 65. Parts of the mid-state, including Davidson County, are under the advisory until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Forecasters said illness such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke usually come on after cumulative exposure to heat. They caution that hot, muggy conditions have existed for several days.

NWS suggests taking personal precautions, but also checking on elderly neighbors who may not have air conditioning and making sure pets are safe.
