Some Shelby County Voters Got Wrong Ballots

Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Nearly 1,000 Shelby County early voters got wrong ballots, but the election commission head says nothing can be done about it.

According to The Commercial Appeal, the mistakes came as election workers prepared precinct ballots to reflect redistricting by the Legislature. Most incorrect ballots were in the state House of Representatives races.

County Election Commission Chairman Robert Meyers cited the one person, one vote principal in saying all votes will count and those voters who got the wrong ballots cannot vote again. Meyers, a Republican, thanked Democratic county commission candidate Steve Ross for identifying the cause of the problems.

Early voting continues through Saturday at satellite locations in Shelby County. Election day is August 2 and Meyers said "corrective action" had been taken.
