CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - More than two dozen Chattanooga Police officers have filed a lawsuit, claiming the city discriminates in its pay scale.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the lawsuit was filed this week in Hamilton County Chancery Court, naming as defendants the city, its mayor and its police chief. There are 29 plaintiffs who claim age discrimination, due process violation and breach of contract for failing to fix pay problems from the rank of sergeant on up.
The lawsuit seeks back pay, lost benefits, damages, court costs and attorney fees and a solution to the disparity in pay.
A spokesman for Mayor Ron Littlefield deferred comment to city attorneys who didn't return messages to the newspaper on Wednesday.
The city must respond in court within 30 days.
