NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The three-month old child from Missouri injured in a crash on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County on Wednesday morning remains in critical condition Friday morning.
Officials with Vanderbilt University Medical Center said in a prior report that three-month old Veralyn Ivanchuk had died Thursday night.
The child was traveling with her mother and father, 21-year-olds Danielle and Andrew Ivanchuk, from Wildwood, Missouri, on I-24 eastbound in Rutherford County on Wednesday morning when Andrew fell asleep at the wheel.
The car went off the left side of the interstate, and Andrew overcorrected. The car traveled back over both lanes of traffic, and off the right side of I-24 before hitting several trees.
Danielle Ivanchuk was killed in the crash. Andrew was released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center Wednesday afternoon. Veralyn was critically injured and taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt.
Funeral arrangements for Danielle Ivanchuk have not yet been announced.
