Bird Banding Comes To Music City

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Music City is participating in a continental-wide study on birds. Bird banding stations have been set up in Warner Park's Nature Center for the month of July.

The parks' supervisors and trained volunteers have worked together to record important information, like the birds' sex, age, and weight. Bands are placed around their legs in order to track them. Banders said these are important measures in order to help protect their habitat.

"Birds are a real indication of how our environment is, and how well bird numbers are declining rapidly, so I think it's important that we study them and learn as much as we can about them," said volunteer Cindy Routledge.

The Warner Park Banding Station was established in 1982.
